Description
Stories Under the Singapore Night Sky Discover Singapore after dark on a fascinating walking journey through the heart of the city, where dramatic wartime stories, colonial landmarks, legendary figures and dazzling modern architecture come together under the Singapore night sky. Begin at the Civilian War Memorial, where the illuminated city around you contrasts with stories from one of Singapore’s darkest chapters. Travel back to 1942 and hear about the fall of Singapore, the Sook Ching massacre and the remarkable story of a young Lee Kuan Yew, who narrowly escaped Japanese screening. Look up at the memorial’s four soaring 61-metre pillars, symbolising Singapore’s Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian communities standing together through adversity. Continue to the historic Padang, an open field that has witnessed some of the most important moments in Singapore’s modern history. Hear the dramatic story of a massive 1963 rally and discover the intriguing rivalry between two grand colonial-era institutions — the Singapore Cricket Club and Singapore Recreation Club. Across the Padang, admire the magnificent National Gallery Singapore, housed within the former City Hall and Supreme Court. This was the setting for momentous events, from the Japanese surrender in 1945 to Lee Kuan Yew addressing supporters after becoming Singapore’s first Prime Minister. Your walk continues to the beautifully illuminated Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall, where stories of war, music and survival await. Meet another major character in Singapore’s story — Sir Stamford Raffles — and discover how a small trading settlement grew into one of the world’s great commercial cities. Then stroll towards the Singapore River- once the lifeblood of the city. Walk across Cavenagh Bridge, Singapore’s oldest suspension bridge, before visiting the grand Fullerton Hotel, once home to the General Post Office. Discover Singapore’s historic Mile Zero, the point from which road distances across the island were once measured. And then, get your camera ready! Step out onto the waterfront and take in one of Singapore’s most spectacular nighttime panoramas. Marvel at the glittering Marina Bay Sands, admire the city skyline reflected across the water, and have some fun capturing the classic photo of yourself “drinking” from the Merlion, Singapore’s iconic mascot. Cross the waterfront towards the Esplanade, Singapore’s famous “Durian”-shaped performing arts centre, and discover why its unusual spiky exterior is about much more than just appearance. Finally, end your evening at Gluttons Bay, where you can continue the night over some of Singapore’s favourite local dishes. Come for the beautiful night views — and leave with the stories behind the skyline. History, legends, architecture, photo stops and local stories — all in one unforgettable walk through Singapore after dark. *Food and drinks at Gluttons Bay are not included in the tour price.*Includes
